I am primarily a self-taught artist who has painted in
traditional oils for the last 37 years. I had my first art lesson when
I was five years old from my grandmother who was an accomplished artist.
My late mother was also an oil painter of great talent and we shared many
ideas on painting techniques and styles over the years.
In my artwork, I feel that I bring my knowledge of painting and my memories
to the forefront in a representational and painterly style when capturing
the drama and atmosphere of the California Landscape and the Historical
Railroad Scene.
I have had numerous shows and exhibits throughout the Western United States,
including a memorable "one man show" in 1983, and participation in a group
show at Railfair '91 and '99, at the California State Railroad Museum
in Sacramento, California. Three of my railroad paintings are prominently
displayed at this museum within the Stanford Library. My landscapes and
railroad scenes are included within many corporate and private individual
collections throughout the world. I am very pleased to be noted as one
of the select artists when it relates to railroad artwork.
Also of interest, many of my railroad paintings have been reproduced as
covers for railroad books and within publications of railroad history.
Previous to my full time painting, I was employed by the Southern Pacific
Railroad as a Trainman in 1972, where I was promoted to Conductor in 1978.
I had worked the Los Angeles and Oregon divisions and left the SP in 1988
