Commissioned Artwork

You must be satisfied with a commissioned painting and I must enjoy creating it, which inevitably shows in the final outcome. Therefore, to have a win-win situation between the collector and the artist, I have found that subjectively the following events must occur.

Railroad Subjects
The collector determines the subject matter, location (along with the time of day if train scheduling is a factor), and the time of year. The subject matter must be of a railroad of the Western United States, either in steam or diesel operation, and in the time period between the late 1930's to the early 1970's. At this point, I will use my "Artists License" to do approximately two or three pencil sketches of the proposed painting at an angle that I think accentuates the subject matter the best. The sketches are then sent to the collector, at which time one is selected. If there are any minor changes that the collector feels are needed, these agreed upon changes, that may incur additional charges, will be incorporated into the final painting.

California Landscapes
Contemporary and historical scenes of California are always considered, with personal emphasis on the Central Coast and the Southern California scene. The collector chooses the subject, location, and the time of day. Subsequently, I complete two or three pencil sketches that depict the subject the best. These are then sent to the collector for minor changes if any, and then they will be incorporated within the final painting.

Materials
All original oil paintings are created upon stretched cotton or linen canvas with Winsor Newton oil paints and mediums used exclusively. When completed, and after an appropriate drying period, the paintings surface is enhanced and protected by applying a synthetic medium gloss varnish.

Copyright
Each original painting is copyrighted through the United Stated Copyright Office in Washington D.C. and is not to be reproduced or altered in any way or form whatsover by the original or any subsequent owner.

Additional Information
All commissioned work is unframed. Shipping by Federal Express Overnight, or U.S registered mail, along with insurance costs, are the responsibility of the collector. I travel throughout California extensively, and at times I am in the right area to personally deliver the painting if so desired. Every effort will be administered in the way of packaging, shipping and delivery for the safe arrival of each painting.

If you have any further interest, or questions, and with no obligation, contact me and I will send a commissioned artwork agreement along with the expected time period for completion.
