Fine Art Definitions
Fine
Art Printing
All of my canvas and paper reproductions are created using fine art digital
photography and archival printing methods. Reproductions are created through
a very high end resolution digital 'capture' directly from the original
and then downloaded into the computer. This method of capture produces
the greatest level of detail and color fidelity currently possible for
fine art printing.
Digital images are then color matched to the original, a proof is printed
and then the proof is compared to the original. This "print and compare"
process continues until the reproduction is as close to the original as
possible. The printer and the artist then sign off on the final proof
and the edition is printed and released.
All of my reproductions are created using combinations of opaque archival
inks, canvas, and paper. With the canvas reproductions, they have two
coatings of final varnish to further preserve their appearance and longevity
long into the future.
I am fortunate to have a fine art printer that is an artist in his own
right in the way of color matching and his computer expertise. He will
not present me a proof until it meets his exacting standards for color
fidelity, saturation, and overall appearance to the original work.
Limited Edition Canvas Reproductions
A Limited Edition Canvas Reproduction is one that is sold in limited quantities
and produced upon artist canvas as was original. The value of each canvas
reproduction is based on the size and the number of reproductions available
within that size. Typically, an image that is reproduced 100 times has
more value to collectors than an image that is reproduced 1,000 times.
Limited Edition Canvas Reproductions are signed and numbered by the artist.
The numbering will look like this: 10/95. This means the reproduction
is the tenth one out of a total of an extremely limited edition of only
95. Each one of my Limited Edition Canvas Reproductions include a signed
and dated certificate of authentication and registration.
On occasion, Artist's Proofs are also available within the edition. These
are separate from the regular edition and are very few in number, and
are usually kept by the artist.
Artist Enhanced Canvas Reprodutions
Artist enhancing is where I personally paint upon certain areas of the
canvas reproduction's surface to enhance it’s overall appearance and give
it a painterly look. This is performed by mixing paint equal to the local
color of an area, and then I apply it to form texturing and brush strokes.
My enhanced brush strokes and texturing are applied in the same manner
as when the original was created.
When enhancing is completed, a final varnish is applied to form an even
and rich looking semi-gloss finish to it’s entire surface. In and of itself,
this makes the artist enhanced reproduction an individual and distinct
piece within each limited edition. All Limited Edition Canvas Reproductions
are pre-stretched unless otherwise noted.
